Islanders hope to extend winning streak vs. Maple Leafs

(My Sportsbook) - The lowly New York Islanders will shoot for a third consecutive victory when they visit the Toronto Maple Leafs for tonight's encounter at Air Canada Centre.

The Islanders, who are last in the NHL with just 51 points, are coming off victories over New Jersey and Phoenix and have also won four of their last five contests. New York hasn't won three in a row since a season-high four- game winning streak from January 21-February 3.

After recording Saturday's surprising 7-3 win over Atlantic Division leaders New Jersey, the Isles notched a close win the following day against Phoenix. Yann Danis made 40 saves to lead the Islanders to a 3-2 decision at Nassau Coliseum.

Jeff Tambellini, Josh Bailey and Kyle Okposo scored for the Islanders.

New York is kicking off its longest road trip of the season tonight, as it plays the first of six straight away from Long Island. The Isles have a dismal 6-23-2 record as the guest this year and have lost six straight on the road.

The Maple Leafs have lost two straight and three of their last four games. They played on Monday night in Ottawa and were handed a 2-1 setback by the rival Senators as Daniel Alfredsson and Dany Heatley scored back-to-back goals near the end of the second period.

Ian White had the lone goal for Toronto, which has lost two in a row. Curtis Joseph faced 26 shots, but allowed two of them to go in and took the loss.

Toronto is currently the 11th seed in the East, but is 11 points away from the conference's final postseason berth.

Tonight's test marks the opener of a three-game homestand for the Maple Leafs, who will also host Tampa Bay and Calgary during the residency. Toronto is just 11-12-9 at home this season and has lost two straight, five of six and six of its last eight as the host.

Toronto has won two of three against the Isles this year and the clubs have split the last six meetings. New York has lost in two of its last three trips to ACC.
