Raleigh, NC (My Sportsbook) - Cam Ward turned away all 28 shots he faced to record his fifth shutout of the season, as the Carolina Hurricanes defeated the
New York Rangers, 3-0, in a matchup between playoff hopefuls at the RBC Center. Rod Brind'Amour netted a power-play goal to celebrate his 600th game with the Hurricanes, who have won four games in a row and eight of their last 10 overall. Joe Corvo and Tuomo Ruutu also tallied for Carolina, which leapfrogged three teams, including the Rangers, to vault into sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings with 77 points. Carolina has not made the postseason since skating off with the Stanley Cup in the Spring of 2006. Seldom-used backup Steve Valiquette made 33 saves for the road-weary Rangers, who have dropped 10 of 11 away from Madison Square Garden. Valiquette made his first start since a forgettable 10-2 thrashing at the hands of the
Dallas Stars on February 6. New York has 76 points and is tied with Florida and Atlantic Division-rival Pittsburgh for the final two playoff seeds.
Final Score: Ottawa 2, Toronto 1
Ottawa, ON (My Sportsbook) - Daniel Alfredsson and Dany Heatley scored back- to-back goals near the end of the second period, as the Ottawa Senators came back to edge the Toronto Maple Leafs, 2-1. Brian Elliot stopped 25-of-26 shots for Ottawa, which has won three in a row. The Senators are 2-2-1 against the Leafs this season, and wrap up the season series on April 11 in Toronto, in what will be both teams' final regular season game. Ian White had the lone goal for Toronto, which has lost two in a row. Curtis Joseph also faced 26 shots, but allowed two of them to go in and took the loss.
Final Score: Los Angeles 3, Vancouver 2
Los Angeles, CA (My Sportsbook) - Jarret Stoll netted two power-play goals, lifting the Los Angeles Kings to a 3-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks at Staples Center. Denis Gauthier also tallied and Teddy Purcell recorded two assists for the Kings, who have won three games in a row. Jonathan Quick stopped 20 shots for the victory and improved to 16-11-1 on the season. Los Angeles is 12th in the Western Conference with 67 points and is just three points out of a playoff spot. Alex Burrows and Taylor Pyatt scored for the Canucks, who lost for only the third time in their last 15 games. Roberto Luongo allowed three goals on 22 shots in defeat. Vancouver remains eight points behind Calgary for first place in the Northwest Division and with 76 points is currently the fifth seed in the West.
