Renton, WA (My Sportsbook) - The
Seattle Seahawks and wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh officially agreed to a multi-year contract on Tuesday.
Terms of the deal were not released, but the NFL Network reports that Houshmandzadeh, who was also looking at returning to Cincinnati or signing with Minnesota, signed for $40 million over five years with $15 million guaranteed.
"I don't think I got it done very quickly in free agency standards," said Houshmandzadeh. "When I came to Seattle, I told Minnesota that I would come up there, and I wanted to keep my word. I guess that's not how free agency works. 'You go some place, you like it, you sign, you go home. But I wanted to keep my word to those guys, and I did. It just made my decision easier, because I knew this was where I wanted to be."
Considered the top free agent wideout on the market, the 31-year-old had 92 catches for 904 yards and four touchdowns in 15 games last season with the Bengals. The former Oregon State standout set career-highs with 112 receptions for 1,143 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2007.
A veteran of eight seasons, all with Cincinnati, Houshmandzadeh has 507 receptions for 5,782 yards and 37 touchdowns for his career.
"It was tough to have the talent that we had and not capitalize on the situations and opportunities we had in those last few years," Houshmandzadeh said of his time with the Bengals. "But I'm coming here. Like I said, the last five years, Seattle has basically owned the division. They had a bad year last year, and you can look at the injuries and say, that's probably the biggest reason why. So I just look forward to coming here and doing my part. That's all I'm going to do. I'm going to come here and I'm going to do my part."
