Sparta, KY (My Sportsbook) - Bobby Hamilton captured Saturday night's Built Ford Tough 225 Craftsman Truck Series race at the Kentucky Speedway. The No.4 Dodge driver crossed the finish line .179 seconds ahead of runner-up Jack Sprague.
The victory was Hamilton's third of the season and seventh of his truck career.
Hamilton didn't look back after his early pass of Carl Edwards on lap 14. After this pass it soon became evident that Hamilton had the best truck on the track. Despite a late race scare, Hamilton had no competition most of the race.
An excited Hamilton after the race said, "This truck was flawless since we unloaded it."
The race started out slow though as there was over an hour delay to the start the race because of earlier rain showers.
The drivers started the race in their point standing positions on the grid as qualifying was canceled due to rain. The race started with a green-yellow flag. But on lap 13 the green flag was dropped.
Hamilton, who was the fastest in practice, quickly took the lead from Edwards. Hamilton became dominant and continued to lead the field.
Setzer, the points leader going into the race, had early problems and soon was out of the top-10. Setzer was never able to get back on track as he finished in 11th.
Edwards, second in points going into the race, had many car problems all race long. Edwards' pit road penalty and car problems hurt him in the point standings as he finished in 33rd.
Hamilton, who was third in the standings, was able to take advantage of Setzer's and Edwards' bad night.
With Hamilton so dominant, the battle was behind him for second and third.
Steve Park, Matt Crafton, and Jack Sprague battled it out behind Hamilton for the first 100 laps.
But on the final pit stops, Park had a very long pit stop as his crew had trouble with his right-rear wheel. Park dropped to 10th after the very long stop. Park ended the race in sixth.
Sprague, Crafton, and David Starr moved up after the last pits in the battle behind Hamilton.
Terry Cook who was in the top-five brought out a caution late in the race to tighten things up. With only 5 laps to go in the race it was Sprague who was able to pass Hamilton.
A few laps later another caution came out with a Rick Crawford spin out. With 2 laps to go the race restarted and right away Hamilton passed Sprague to take the lead. Hamilton didn't look back from then on as he went on to win in a green-white-checkered finish.
Sprague got second as Starr, Crafton, and Chad Chaffin finished out the top- five.
The next race in the Craftsman Truck Series championship, the Ram Tough 200 from the Gateway International Raceway, is scheduled for Saturday, July 17th.
