(My Sportsbook) - The
Nashville Predators will shoot for a fourth straight victory when they host the first-place Detroit Red Wings in tonight's Central Division showdown at Sommet Center.
The Predators have won three straight on the heels of a three-game slide and have recorded at least a point in four consecutive tests (3-0-1). Earlier this month, Nashville set a season-high with four straight wins from February 1-6 and the club is 9-4-1 this month.
Nashville is still in the Western Conference playoff mix with 64 points. It's currently just one point out of a postseason berth, as Anaheim, Dallas, Edmonton and Minnesota are all tied for the conference's final two playoff spots.
Tonight's test marks the third segment of a five-game homestand for the Predators, who will close the residency with games against Edmonton and Columbus. Nashville is 18-11-2 in the Music City this year and has won two straight and four of its last six on home ice.
Nashville was last in action this Thursday against Phoenix and recorded a 4-1 victory. Joel Ward had a goal and an assist while Pekka Rinne stopped 25 shots to help the Predators skate past the Coyotes at Sommet Center.
David Legwand, Jason Arnott and Steve Sullivan each lit the lamp for the Predators.
The Red Wings hold a comfortable lead atop the Central Division with 90 points, giving them a 13-point edge over second-place Chicago. Detroit is also just three points back of San Jose for the top seed in the West.
Detroit has won two straight and four of its last five games and has posted a 10-2-1 record in February.
The Red Wings recorded their most recent win Friday against visiting Los Angeles. Chris Osgood was nearly perfect in net, stopping 30 shots, and Tomas Kopecky netted the game-winner early in the third period, as Detroit edged the Kings, 2-1, at Joe Louis Arena. Derek Meech also tallied for the Red Wings.
Osgood saw his first action between the pipes since a 6-5 shootout loss to Colorado on February 15 after being given time off to clear his mind and try to rediscover his form.
The veteran goaltender backstopped the Red Wings to the franchise's 11th Stanley Cup title last spring, going 14-4 with a 1.55 goals-against average and .930 save percentage, but has struggled in the crease this season. Osgood has a 3.22 GAA and .883 save percentage, a far cry from his heroics in the 2008 playoffs.
Ty Conklin, who is 22-7-1 with a .918 save percentage and 2.28 GAA this year, will get the start tonight and is 4-2-1 in his career against Nashville.
Tonight marks the start of a three-game road trip for the Red Wings, who will also make stops in St. Louis and Colorado during this swing. Detroit is 17-9-5 as the guest this year, but has lost two straight and six of its last eight road tests.
Detroit has won two of three against the Predators this season and has taken five of the last seven meetings overall. The Red Wings have also won two of three and three of their last five tests in Nashville.
