Toronto, ON (My Sportsbook) - New York Islanders defenseman Brendan Witt was suspended for five games, without pay, by the National Hockey League on Friday. At 2:21 of the third period of Thursday's 5-4 shootout loss to Toronto, Witt caught Maple Leafs forward Niklas Hagman with a left elbow and was assessed a five-minute major and game misconduct. Hagman was injured on the play and did not return to the contest. Witt will miss tomorrow's game against Buffalo and the club's games on March 2 against Colorado, March 5 against the Rangers, March 7 against New Jersey and March 8 against Phoenix. He will be eligible to return to the lineup on March 10, when the Isles travel to Toronto. The veteran rearguard has recorded seven assists with a frosty minus-31 rating in 49 games for New York this season.
