(My Sportsbook) - The
Tampa Bay Lightning will try for their first win ever in Vancouver, as they visit the Canucks tonight at General Motors Place.
Tampa Bay is 0-7-1 with a pair of ties all-time in Vancouver since entering the league prior to the 1992-93 season. The Lightning were shelled 5-1 the last time they visited GM Place on March 6, 2007.
Tampa has struggled versus the Canucks all-time as well, as it is just 4-12-2 with two ties versus Vancouver. However, the Lightning did snap a seven-game series winless streak with a 4-3 home win versus the Canucks last season. It was their first win over the franchise since October 25, 1998.
While Tampa Bay hasn't had any success in Vancouver, they kicked off a three- game tour through western Canada in Edmonton on Tuesday, a city where it had hadn't lost since 2001. However, the Oilers notched a 5-3 victory for their first win against the Lightning since March 6, 2002.
Cory Murphy found the net on two occasions for the Lightning, who have dropped five of their last six games overall. Rookie Steven Stamkos also lit the lamp, while Karri Ramo surrendered four goals on 44 shots in defeat. Skating in his 600th career game with Tampa, Martin St. Louis ended with two assists.
The Lightning have also lost six straight on the road and are just 9-17-4 as the guest this year. Tampa, which hasn't won as the visitor since January 12, will hope to have Vincent Lecavalier tonight when it attempts to end its road skid. Lecavalier is probable due to a bruised right foot/heel suffered versus the Oilers when he was hit by a St. Louis slap shot.
Meanwhile, the Canucks begin a four-game homestand tonight and have won their last three as the host since suffering through a franchise-worst nine-game home losing streak. Overall, Vancouver is 14-11-4 at home this season.
The Canucks did lose last time out, however, falling 3-0 to the Canadiens in Montreal on Tuesday. Jaroslav Halak delivered a stellar performance between the pipes, turning away all 34 shots he faced to record his first shutout of the season and fourth of his career.
Roberto Luongo made 14 saves for the surging Canucks, who lost for just the second time in 10 February games.
Pavol Demitra, who has 16 goals and 20 assists this season, practiced on Thursday and is expected to play tonight despite a broken left pinky. Darcy Hordichuk is also expected to return tonight from a three-game absence due to the birth of his son.
Vancouver, which trails first-place Vancouver by 10 points in the Northwest Division, is tied with Columbus for fifth overall in the Western Conference with 68 points.
