Ottawa, ON (My Sportsbook) - Milan Michalek and Patrick Marleau scored power-play goals 1:18 apart in the second period, as the San Jose Sharks edged the
Ottawa Senators, 2-1, at Scotiabank Place.
Brian Boucher made 23 saves for the Sharks, who rebounded from a loss Wednesday to post their fifth win in six games. Marleau's goal was his 34th of the season, which ties a career high he set during the 2005-06 season.
"You don't want to get on a roll going the other way," Marleau said of avoiding a losing streak. "You want to try and cut it off as soon as possible."
Mike Fisher's power-play tally was the lone score for Ottawa, which won Tuesday against Carolina, but has dropped four of five overall. Alex Auld gave up both goals on 24 shots.
"I thought we played pretty well," Auld said. "Especially 5-on-5, we really limited them. Most of their chances came on the power play."
Fisher's goal with 6:14 left in the first period put the Senators on the scoreboard, and the 1-0 lead lasted to the first intermission.
But with 8:34 left in the second period, Michalek scored the equalizer, and with 7:16 remaining San Jose went in front.
Joe Thornton accepted a pass in the right circle and immediately sent the puck back across the slot to Jeremy Roenick on the left side, and Roenick's one- timer deflected off Marleau before going past Auld for a 2-1 Sharks lead.
Boucher needed to make only four saves in the second period to have the lead stand up, and he turned aside nine shots in the third period to seal the win.
"We were a little bit tired," Thornton said. "But we sucked it up, and [Boucher] played great tonight. When we needed a big save he was there for us."
