Los Angeles, CA (My Sportsbook) - Scott Boras, Manny Ramirez's agent, rejected the
Los Angeles Dodgers' latest offer to the slugger, reported to be a two-year deal worth $45 million.
The Dodgers sent out a release Thursday saying they had received a letter of rejection from Boras. It is the fourth time Boras has rejected the Dodgers in their efforts to sign Ramirez.
"We love Manny Ramirez," Dodgers owner Frank McCourt said in the release. "And we want Manny back, but we feel we are negotiating against ourselves. When his agent finds those 'serious offers' from other clubs, we'll be happy to re- start the negotiations.
"Even with an economy that has substantially eroded since last November, out of respect for Manny and his talents, we actually improved our offer," McCourt continued. "So now, we start from scratch."
The latest offer, according to the Los Angeles Times and MLB.com, the proposed contract would have paid Ramirez $25 million in 2009 and included a player option for $20 million in 2010.
It was the second time LA had proposed a contract totaling two years and $45 million, but Boras did not respond to the initial offering. Ramirez also turned down a one-year, $25 million offer from the Dodgers.
Ramirez, who is an unrestricted free agent, just completed an eight-year, $160 million contract he signed with Boston in 2001. The Dodgers acquired the slugger from the Red Sox last July 31, and Ramirez led LA to the NL Championship Series before losing to World Series champion Philadelphia.
Ramirez hit .396 with 17 homers and 53 RBI in just 53 games after joining the Dodgers. He batted .299 with 20 homers and 68 RBI in 100 contests for Boston in 2008.
