Frisco, TX (My Sportsbook) - The Dallas Stars acquired center Steve Begin from the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday in exchange for defenseman Doug Janik. The 30-year-old Begin recorded six goals and four assists in 42 games for the Habs this season. "Steve is a gritty, honest player with a very strong work ethic," said Stars co-general manager Les Jackson. "He's good on the penalty kill and he is a competitor in every sense of the word. We think he'll be a very good addition to our group as we continue to fight toward the playoffs." Coming into play on Thursday, the Stars were eighth in the tight Western Conference with 65 points. Originally selected by Calgary in the second round of the 1996 draft, Begin has posted 46 goals and 38 assists in 389 career games with the Flames and Canadiens. The native of Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, captured the Jack A. Butterfield Trophy in 2001 as the American Hockey League playoff MVP, leading the now-defunct Saint John Flames to the Calder Cup. Janik has appeared in just 13 games this season, collecting one assist.
