Los Angeles Lakers continue their season series versus the
Phoenix Suns at Staples Center.
The Lakers have won the first two tests with the Suns this season, including a 115-110 victory in the last meeting on December 10 in LA. The Lakers have won three straight and five of the last six meetings with Phoenix, which has dropped four of its last six trips to the City of Angels.
LA has been on a roll, having won five straight and 12 of its last 13 games, including Tuesday's 107-93 victory at Oklahoma City. Superstar and MVP candidate Kobe Bryant scored a game-high 36 points and moved into 19th place on the NBA's career scoring list, ahead of Adrian Dantley. During the Lakers' 111-108 victory at Minnesota on Sunday, Bryant passed Elgin Baylor for 20th.
Pau Gasol added 14 points, eight rebounds, and six assists for the Lakers, who have the NBA's best record at 47-10. Derek Fisher poured in 12 points, while Luke Walton ended with 11 points, five boards, and four assists in a winning effort.
Phoenix has won four of its last five games and recorded a 112-102 victory versus Charlotte on Tuesday in the finale of a three-game homestand at US Airways Center. Steve Nash had 22 points and five assists, as Phoenix completed the residency with a 2-1 record. Nash exited the game briefly with an ankle problem, but was able to return.
Shaquille O'Neal and Jason Richardson scored 20 points apiece, with O'Neal adding 11 rebounds for the Suns. Leandro Barbosa and Matt Barnes scored 17 points and 14, respectively, in the win.
On the injury front for the Suns, Nash and fellow guard Jason Richardson are both listed as questionable for Thursday with ankle problems.
