Philadelphia, PA (My Sportsbook) - Martin Biron turned away all 34 shots he faced to notch his 25th career shutout, as the Philadelphia Flyers defeated the Los Angeles Kings, 2-0, at the Wachovia Center.

Jeff Carter registered a goal and an assist for the Flyers, who have won seven of their last nine games and are second in the Atlantic Division with 75 points, four behind the idle New Jersey Devils.

The 11th overall pick in the 2003 draft, Carter has found the net with great frequency this season, pumping in 36 goals, second only to Washington sniper Alex Ovechkin (44).

"Some nights the puck just hits you and sticks," said Biron.

Erik Ersberg was equally impressive between the pipes for Los Angeles, making 18 saves in defeat. Playing in the second leg of a five-game road trip, the Kings have dropped six of eight.

"We had some power plays," said Kings head coach Terry Murray. "We had our opportunities there and those are critical moments in the game where you got to take advantage of them. I felt we had some quality chances. Marty (Biron) was really good."

Carter broke the scoreless deadlock on the power play with 3:49 remaining in the middle stanza. Joffrey Lupul threw the puck to the front of the net. As players collapsed around the Los Angeles netminder, Carter was positioned at the far post and was able to jam the puck behind Ersberg.

The Kings came in waves over the final 20 minutes, pressing for the equalizer, but Simon Gagne's empty-net tally in the game's dying seconds cemented the win.
