Porto, Portugal (My Sportsbook) - Portuguese international Helder Postiga will return to his former club FC Porto. English Premiership side Tottenham received $9.3 million for Postiga, before paying Porto $3.7 million to bring midfielder Pedro Mendes to the Spurs. Postiga never got settled in with Tottenham, scoring just twice in 22 matches since joining the squad last June. "There's no doubting Helder's ability, but maybe he came to the Premiership too soon," Spurs sporting director Frank Arneson admitted. "He was keen to return home and, although we rate him highly here, we did not like to see him unhappy." The 21-year-old Postiga represented Portugal in Euro 2004. He even came on to score a huge goal that tied the quarterfinal contest against England last month. The 25-year-old Mendes contributed to Porto's Champions League conquest this past season. He now joins several other players from the championship squad to leave this summer. "It is an excellent deal for us because Pedro gives us more options in midfield and brings with him experience in European competition," Arnesen said. "He has a well deserved reputation on the continent and we are delighted to have added him to our squad."
