Ottawa, ON (My Sportsbook) - Mike Comrie notched the game-winning goal late in the first period as Ottawa doubled up Carolina, 4-2, at Scotiabank Place.

Dany Heatley, Chris Kelly and Jason Spezza tallied once each for the Senators, who halted a three-game losing streak and kicked off a season-high eight-game homestand with a victory.

Alex Auld had his finest performance of the season, stopping 41-of-43 shots to post his 12th win of the season.

"It's been a while. I can't remember the last time I had that many against me," Auld noted. "I felt pretty good and I got the goal support tonight, which was awesome."

Patrick Eaves and Anton Babchuk scored for the Hurricanes, who had won three in a row.

Cam Ward took the loss, shelled for three goals on nine shots in the start. Michael Leighton subbed over the final two periods and allowed one goal on 13 shots.

The Senators took a 3-1 lead to the first intermission, thanks to a quick burst which included three goals scored in a span of 46 seconds.

Heatley connected for his 30th of the season at 14:03, followed by Eaves for Carolina 17 seconds later, Only 29 seconds after the tie, Kelly hit the net with an assist from Antoine Vermette and it was a 2-1 lead for the home club.

Comrie then hit the net for his first goal of his second Ottawa stint for the two-goal edge at 19:49. The 28-year-old was acquired from the New York Islanders last Friday, and had previously spent 41 games with the Senators at the end of the 2006-07 season.

"It's nice to contribute when you come to a new team," Comrie said. "The biggets thing is to try and fit in right away."

Spezza's power-play goal less than two minutes into the second period gave the home team a 4-1 lead, and Babchuk responded on the man advantage late for a 4-2 game after 40 minutes.

Auld's best period was the third, where he turned away all 16 shots he faced to lock up the Sens' triumph.

"He played well," said Hurricanes forward Eric Staal of Auld. "He was making the first save, the second a few times. He did a pretty good job in there."
