Busch captures pole for truck race at California

Fontana, CA (My Sportsbook) - Kyle Busch will start on the pole for Saturday's San Bernardino County 200 Camping World Truck Series race at Auto Club Speedway. Busch, who won last year's 200-mile race at the two-mile Southern California track, posted the best qualifying lap at 41.341 seconds (174.161 m.p.h.) in his No.51 Billy Ballew Motorsports Toyota.

The pole victory was Busch's third career in the series. He also became the first driver to win a pole and race in NASCAR's top three divisions at the same track.

"That's an awesome run," Busch said. "The Miccosukee Toyota ran great. We qualified it on the pole. So we'll take that and get into the race tomorrow and plan another strong run."

Busch holds the record as youngest pole and race winner in the Sprint Cup Series. He accomplished both feats during the 2005 season at California. Busch also started on the pole and won the Nationwide event there last August.

Starting alongside Busch on the front row is Johnny Benson, who was second quickest at 41.695 seconds in his No.1 Red Horse Racing Toyota.

Ricky Carmichael, a rookie in the series this year, will start third, followed by Ron Hornaday and Mike Skinner.

Sixth through 10th will be: Colin Braun, Todd Bodine, Matt Crafton, Rick Crawford and Max Papis.

Bodine, in his unsponsored No.30 Toyota for Germain Racing, won last week at Daytona. He finished second to Busch one year ago at California.

Benson, the defending series champion, is hoping to rebound after being involved in a multi-truck pileup at Daytona. He finished 26th. Only once has Benson finished outside the top-10 in five starts at California - a 12th-place finish in 2005.

Despite finishing fifth at Daytona, Hornaday and truck owner DeLana Harvick were both penalized 25 championship points this week after NASCAR officials found an unapproved shock absorber on Hornaday's truck during post-race inspection. Crew chief Rick Ren was fined $5,000 and placed on probation until June 30.

Hornaday has finished second and fifth in the last two California races.

The green flag is scheduled to drop around 3:00 p.m. (et).
