Tempe, AZ (My Sportsbook) - The
Arizona Cardinals announced several coaching changes on Wednesday, including elevating linebackers coach Bill Davis to defensive coordinator.
Davis spent the past two years as linebackers coach with the Cardinals after serving as defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers from 2005-06.
The 43-year-old Davis enters his 16th year of NFL coaching, having held various defensive posts while with Pittsburgh (1992-94), Carolina (1995-98), Cleveland (1999), Green Bay (2000), Atlanta (2001-03), the Giants (2004) and San Francisco before joining Arizona. He replaces outgoing defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast, who was let go earlier this month despite having helped lead Arizona to its first Super Bowl appearance in franchise history.
Defensive assistant Matt Raich was promoted to coach the linebackers. Raich served as an assistant to the defense the past two years while previously assisting the Steelers' defense for the previous three seasons.
On the offensive side of the ball, assistant head coach/offensive line coach Russ Grimm has also added the hat of running game coordinator, while receivers coach Mike Miller was promoted to passing game coordinator.
Grimm is entering his third season with Arizona after spending the previous six seasons with Pittsburgh, first as offensive line coach (2001-03) and then as assistant head coach/offensive line coach (2004-06). The 49-year-old has 17 years of NFL coaching experience in all, including nine years with the Washington Redskins.
Miller spent the past two years tutoring the Cardinals' receivers and has nine years of NFL coaching experience with previous stops in Pittsburgh (1999-2003) and Buffalo (2004-05).
In addition, John McNulty has been named receivers coach and Chris Miller quarterbacks coach.
