Kings, Ducks battle in Anaheim

(My Sportsbook) - The Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks conclude their season series tonight, as the two Pacific Division residents square off at the Honda Center.

The Kings and Ducks began this six-game set back on October 14, with Los Angeles claiming a 6-3 home victory. The Kings then dropped three straight to the Ducks, including two in Anaheim, before a 4-3 home win on January 8. Overall, Los Angeles has lost five of seven and nine of its last 12 versus Anaheim.

The Kings have also dropped five straight and nine of their last 12 in Anaheim, where they haven't won since March 18, 2007.

Los Angeles has cooled off a bit since a recent stretch that saw the club win four straight and seven of eight. The Kings have dropped three in a row -- all at home -- but did manage to pick up a pair of points in that span. After a 2-0 setback to Calgary ended their four-game win streak, the Kings went on to drop back-to-back shootout games versus Edmonton and Atlanta.

Los Angeles had to rally late for its point on Monday versus the Thrashers. The club trailed 6-3 early in the third frame before running off three unanswered goals, including Anze Kopitar's game-tying marker with just five seconds to go in regulation, his second goal of the frame.

However, Erik Christensen's goal in the fourth round of a shootout lifted Atlanta to the win.

Kopitar ended with four points off two goals and two assists, while Denis Gauthier also scored in the third frame, his first goal since December 31, 2005, a span of 124 games.

Alexander Frolov had a goal and three assists, while Jack Johnson and Jarret Stoll also scored in defeat. Jonathan Quick was lifted after giving up three goals on just seven shots in the opening period and Erik Ersberg made 17 saves in relief.

The Kings, who are five points out of a playoff spot, are 11-10-1 on the road this year and play in San Jose on Thursday.

The Ducks were aiming for a three-game win streak on Sunday versus the Thrashers, but were handed an 8-4 loss by Atlanta. Teemu Selanne had two goals and an assist for the Ducks, who were trying for their first three-game winning streak since a four-game burst from November 22-30.

Andrew Ebbett logged a goal and two helpers while Bobby Ryan scored and added an assist. Jean-Sebastien Giguere allowed five goals on 25 shots and was pulled in favor of Jonas Hiller, who stopped 15-of-17 shots. Giguere had won back-to-back starts after losing his previous four outings.

The Ducks are 15-12-3 as the host this year and wrap a three-game homestand tonight. Anaheim will begin a six-game road trip in Detroit on Friday and is just one point out of a playoff spot.
