Winnipeg, MB (My Sportsbook) - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have acquired defensive back James Johnson from the Saskatchewan Roughriders in exchange for a conditional pick in the 2011 draft, the club announced on Monday. Johnson, who has spent his last three seasons with the Roughriders, was the MVP of the Grey Cup in 2007, as he picked off the Blue Bombers three times en route to a Saskatchewan victory. "He's a proven starter in this league," said Winnipeg head coach Mike Kelly of Johnson. "We think with his experience and type of player he is, that he fits the mold that we're looking for." "We're excited that he decided to join the right side of the Banjo Bowl," Kelly added, referring to the rivalry between Winnipeg and Saskatchewan. In 17 games last season, the 28-year-old Johnson had 39 tackles and three interceptions.
