Surging Sens visit Predators

(My Sportsbook) - The suddenly-hot Ottawa Senators will try to extend their season-high winning streak to five games when they visit the Nashville Predators for tonight's interconference battle at Sommet Center.

The Senators, who are last in the Northeast Division with 50 points, had lost four straight prior to this four-game winning streak. Ottawa hadn't won more than two games in a row this season before the current surge.

Three of Ottawa's victories during the hot streak have come at the start of a five-game road trip that is scheduled to end Tuesday in Colorado. The Senators are just 9-16-3 as the guest this season.

The Sens earned their latest victory in comeback fashion Saturday in Minnesota. Daniel Alfredsson's short-handed tally early in the third completed the rally, as Ottawa charged back from three goals down to upend the Wild, 5-3.

Five unanswered goals from the Senators, including two while a man down, gave Ottawa its first four-game win streak since January 4-12 of last season.

Alfredsson added two assists, Chris Phillips had the other short-handed goal to tie the game at three, and Brian Lee and Antoine Vermette also scored for the visitors.

Alex Auld was a perfect 17-for-17 in save opportunities in relief of Brian Elliott, who was pulled after allowing three goals on 12 shots.

The Predators, meanwhile, have won two straight and six of their last eight games. Nashville's last two games were decided in the shootout stage, as the club beat St. Louis on Thursday before downing Boston two days later.

Nashville is 16-10-1 as the host this year and is completing a four-game homestand tonight. The Preds have come out on top in four of their last five tests in the Music City.

David Legwand notched the winner in the fourth round of the shootout, as Nashville clipped Boston, 3-2, on Saturday. After Bruins forward Phil Kessel opened the round with a forehand shot that was easily turned aside by Pekka Rinne, Legwand made several stick moves heading to the net and slipped a backhander under the crossbar for the deciding tally.

Legwand also scored twice in regulation for the Predators, who are just four points out of a playoff seed in the Western Conference.

Rinne made 23 saves for his 16th win of the season.

Nashville has won two straight and four of the last six meetings with the Senators and posted a 6-0 victory the last time the clubs meet at Sommet Center on December 14, 2006. Ottawa has lost three straight on the road in this series.
