Habs visit Canucks with shot at back-to-back wins

(My Sportsbook) - The Montreal Canadiens will try to win back-to-back games for the first time in nearly a month when they visit the Vancouver Canucks tonight at General Motors Place.

The Canadiens, who are 1-2 so far on a season-high six-game road trip, are coming off Friday's win in Colorado. Montreal hasn't won consecutive games since posting victories over Nashville and Ottawa on January 15 and 17.

Montreal hasn't had much success against the Canucks in recent memory, as Vancouver has won four in a row in the series and gone 9-0 with a tie in the last 11 meetings. The Habs have also dropped six straight and eight of nine in British Columbia.

The Canadiens' last win in the series, a 4-3 decision on November 30, 2000, was also the club's most recent victory at GM Place.

The Habs ended a four-game slide with the victory in Denver on Friday. Jaroslav Halak recorded a season-high 46 saves and Montreal put the brakes on a season-high-tying losing streak with a 4-2 triumph over the Avalanche.

It was Montreal's first win in Colorado since February 6, 1982 when the Habs got a win against the Colorado Rockies franchise.

Andrei Kostitsyn scored the game-winner with 2:16 left in regulation while Francis Bouillon and Patrice Brisebois each posted first-period goals for the Canadiens, who have still lost nine of their last 12 outings despite the win.

The Habs had lost seven consecutive times on the road prior to the win at the Pepsi Center and are 13-14-2 as the guest this season. After tonight, Montreal will return to the East Coast to finish the swing stops in Washington and Pittsburgh.

Montreal is tied for fifth in the Eastern Conference with 66 points on the year.

While the Canadiens ended a four-game skid in their last outing, the Canucks had a season-high-tying four-game winning streak snapped Friday night in Dallas. Marty Turco stopped 32-of-33 shots to lift the Stars to a 2-1 decision over Vancouver at American Airlines Center.

Taylor Pyatt had the lone score for Vancouver, while Jason LaBarbera took the hard-luck loss after stopping 28-of-30 shots.

The Canucks come into tonight with 60 points and are tied with Edmonton for the eighth seed in the West.

Vancouver, which will begin a four-game road trip Tuesday in Calgary, is 13-11-4 as the host this year. The Canucks have won their last two home games after dropping their previous nine tests at GM Place.
