Saint-Quentin, France (My Sportsbook) - Cristobal Cruz took a close unanimous decision over Cyril Thomas on Saturday to retain the IBF featherweight title. The 31-year-old from Mexico controlled the fight from the start and used combinations in the seventh and eighth rounds to pummel Thomas, who was fighting on his home turf. Two judges had the fight at 115-113 and the other 116-112, all for Cruz, who improved to 38-11 along with one no-contest. Thomas dropped to 33-3-4. Cruz had won the vacant IBF title last October by beating countryman Orlando Salido. This was his first defense of the title.
