Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (My Sportsbook) - Adam Blyth fired a six-under 66 on Saturday to move atop the leaderboard after the third round of the Malaysian Open.
Blyth finished 54 holes at 14-under-par 202 and is one shot clear of both Wen- chong Liang (67) and Alexander Noren (69) at Saujana Golf and Country Club.
The three players tied for fourth place all made huge jumps in Saturday's third round. Miles Tunnicliff (63), Anthony Kang (64) and Prayad Marksaeng (65) share fourth at 12-under 204.
Blyth started well with a birdie at the first hole for his third consecutive round. He added birdies at the fourth and seventh holes to reach 11-under par for the championship, but was knocked down the leaderboard after a bogey at No. 8.
Blyth more than atoned for the error at eight with back-to-back birdies from the 10th. He was within striking distance of the lead, but an eagle at the par-five 13th vaulted him into sole possession of first place.
Noren joined Blyth in first after he birdied the 13th, but Blyth, an Australian, reclaimed the lead on his own when he birdied the par-three 16th hole.
Blyth stumbled to his first bogey of the round at the 17th. He was still able to stay atop the leaderboard after Noren bogeyed 15. Blyth only managed a par at the par-five closing hole, but will still take his first piece of the 54- hole lead on the European Tour.
"I'm very happy," said Blyth. "At the start of the day, you always want to have a chance tomorrow and that was the goal and I managed to get into that position, so it's good."
Blyth will be in search of his maiden victory on the European Tour.
"I have been playing well and having some nice results at the end of last year," said Blyth. "I wanted to just go out and give it my best and see what the result is. So far, it's good and I'll go out there tomorrow and try to continue that to see what the end result is."
Chong was three-under on his round after a bogey at the 15th hole. He jumped up the leaderboard thanks to birdies at 17 and 18. If the tournament gets close on Sunday, Chong could be in good shape. He is five-under on the last two holes for the championship.
"I was steady off the tee and my putting was also very good today," said Chong. "This is golf, anything can happen. I feel relaxed and calm and will head out with a similar approach in the final day."
Noren tallied four birdies over his first 13 holes, but dropped two shots over a three-hole span from the 15th. He birdied the final hole to get within one of the lead.
"I felt that I had played pretty well on the front nine," stated Noren. "I should have probably picked up one other shot on the front nine but it all felt quite easy on the front."
Overnight leader Danny Chia struggled a bit on Saturday. He only managed a two-over 74 in round three and is tied for seventh place with Shiv Kapur (66) at minus-11.
Seung-Yul Noh (71) and Jyoti Randhawa (66) share ninth at 10-under 206.
Anthony Kim, the 11th-ranked player in the world, carded a one-under 71 and is part of a large group tied for 48th place at two-under 214.
