Eindhoven, Netherlands (My Sportsbook) - PSV Eindhoven's run of four consecutive Eredivisie titles appears to be coming to an end, but coach Dwight Lodeweges has promised that his team will show a "fighting spirit" when they host runaway leaders AZ Alkmaar on Saturday.
PSV trails AZ by 15 points entering the weekend, but the Eindhoven club has won its last three games and Lodeweges says they plan on extending that streak on Saturday.
"They are obviously different from Volendam and Graafschap, but I want my team to show their skills against leaders AZ," Lodeweges told the club's official website. "I've called on my players to show no fear. We are PSV. We play at home and we aim to continue our winning streak."
If PSV is going to extend its streak, the club will also have to put a stop to a very impressive run by AZ.
The leaders have won their last 11 games in league play and are unbeaten in 20 matches in the Eredivisie since losing 3-0 to Den Haag on September 13.
The club followed that loss with a 1-0 win over PSV, and they have not looked back since, charging to the top of the table and brining an 11-point cushion into this weekend's match.
PSV will be able to name a nearly identical team to the one that has won three straight after a number of players came through international duty unscathed, but they will be without midfielder Ola Toivonen, who is serving the first of a two-match suspension.
"It's too bad, as Ola was in great shape and linked well with his teammates," Lodeweges said. "But (Danko) Lazovic and (Danny) Koevermans have been doing well at training and I feel confident they will provide adequate cover."
AZ will have to do without the services of Hector Moreno (foot), Jeremain Lens (foot), Niklas Moisander (knee) and Sebastien Pocognoli (hamstring).
Second-place Twente will be hoping for an AZ slip in an effort to close the gap at the top, and they will feel confident of picking up three points on Saturday at home against last-place Volendam.
Third-place Ajax has lost three of its last four games and hopes to turn things around against Feyenoord on Sunday, while second-from-the-bottom Graafschap travels to Den Haag, NAC hosts Roda, Groningen entertains Heracles, fifth-place Heerenveen hits the road to meet NEC and Vitesse squares off with Sparta.
