Los Angeles, CA (My Sportsbook) - Miikka Kiprusoff turned away 36 shots to notch the 30th shutout of his career, leading the
Calgary Flames to a 2-0 victory over the
Los Angeles Kings at Staples Center.
Mike Cammalleri recorded his team-best 29th goal of the year for the Flames, who have won two of three overall. Rene Bourque also lit the lamp in the win while Todd Bertuzzi had an assist.
Jonathan Quick stopped 18-of-19 shots for the Kings, who saw their season-long four-game win streak halted.
"Tonight was a nice win," said Kiprusoff. "The Kings have been playing so well lately and we knew it wasn't going to be easy. They were shooting a lot, but most of those shots I slowed them down and our defense took care of the rest."
The Flames took a 1-0 lead with 11:02 left in the first period.
Bertuzzi accepted a pass at the right boards and skated towards the goal. As he approached the left circle he slid a one-timer to Cammalleri, who was stationed on the doorstep and redirected the disc past a sprawled out Quick.
Quick made 13 saves and Kiprusoff six in the middle frame to keep the score at 1-0 heading into the final 20 minutes.
"Well those are games that you have to find a way to win," said Kings head coach Terry Murray. "When you have a goaltender that's as good as Kiprusoff is, you have to make life more difficult for him."
With Craig Conroy (hooking) and Robyn Regehr (delay of game) in the penalty box early in the third period, LA had a chance to tie it up with a 5-on-3. Calgary, though, managed to kill the penalty and escape unscathed.
Bourque offered an empty net goal with 36 seconds left to account for the final margin.
