Lightning hope to get back in win column against Maple Leafs

(My Sportsbook) - The Tampa Bay Lightning will try to win for just the second time in seven games when they welcome the Toronto Maple Leafs for tonight's battle between struggling teams at St. Pete Times Forum.

The Lightning, who are 12th out of 15 teams in the Eastern Conference with 47 points, have lost five of their last six games. Toronto has dropped three out of four and is just three points ahead of Tampa in the conference standings.

Tampa Bay was dealt a loss its last time on the ice, as the Atlanta Thrashers notched a 3-1 road win at the Forum. Kari Lehtonen made 40 saves as Atlanta shut down the Bolts.

Gary Roberts picked up the lone goal for the Lightning, while rookie goaltender Mike McKenna suffered his first career regulation defeat, despite allowing just two goals on 23 shots.

Tampa is 1-1 so far on a season-high six-game homestand and is just 9-10-7 as the host this season. Next up for the Lighting will be Saturday's divisional matchup with the Southeast-leading Washington Capitals.

Despite losing three out of four and seven of their last 10 games, Toronto has posted at least a point in their last two outings (1-0-1).

The Leafs ended a two-game slide with Saturday's win over rival Montreal before dropping an overtime decision at Florida on Tuesday. Richard Zednik scored the equalizer and overtime winner to lift the Panthers to the 5-4 come- from-behind win over Toronto.

Niklas Hagman had two goals for Toronto and Dominic Moore, Jason Blake and Pavel Kubina each had two assists.

Jamal Mayers and Nik Antropov also scored for the Leafs, while Vesa Toskala turned aside 33 shots in the loss.

This evening's test will mark the end of a four-game road trip for Toronto, which is 11-14-4 as the guest this year and has dropped eight of its last 11 road games. The Leafs will begin a four-game homestand with Saturday's game against Pittsburgh.

Tampa earned a 3-2 win in Toronto in the lone meeting between the clubs on October 28. The Lightning have won three of the last four encounters overall and the Leafs have dropped two straight at the Forum.
