Milwaukee, WI (My Sportsbook) - Richard Jefferson matched a season high with 32 points to go along with seven rebounds and four assists as the injury- plagued
Milwaukee Bucks entered the much-needed All-Star break on a winning note with a 122-110 victory against the
Indiana Pacers at the Bradley Center.
Charlie Bell had 20 points off the bench and Charlie Villanueva scored 17 for the Bucks, who were coming off a victory over the Houston Rockets Monday despite being without three of its key players in shooting guard Michael Redd, center Andrew Bogut and point guard Luke Ridnour.
Ridnour is the latest casualty on the injury front, suffering a broken right thumb late last week. Redd is out for the season with a torn ACL and Bogut is out indefinitely with a stress fracture in his lower back.
Ramon Sessions, who had been logging more minutes after Redd went down and is now starting with Ridnour out, dished out 17 assists to go with 15 points and seven boards as the Bucks shot a scintillating 53.8 percent from the floor.
Milwaukee is now 4-4 since its leading scorer in Redd went down January 24 and finished off a brief three-game homestand 2-1, entering the break with a 26-29 record.
"It's nice taking some momentum into the break," Milwaukee head coach Scott Skiles said. "From my experience, I wouldn't say most times but often at least, you can bring some momentum out of the break."
Danny Granger dropped 26 points and Troy Murphy posted 23 and 10 rebounds for the Pacers, who had logged wins against a pair of division leaders over its last three games, downing Central-Division powerhouse Cleveland on Tuesday after Friday's win against Orlando.
But sandwiched between those wins was a forgettable road setback to lowly Washington and Indiana has dropped nine in a row away from Conseco Fieldhouse and is a poor 6-22 on the road this season.
"They just had out number tonight,"Granger said. "Once again, our defense let us down. It's another case of we can beat Cleveland but we lose to Milwaukee. I don't know. We have to figure it out."
Jarrett Jack checked in with 21 points and six assists while T.J. Ford chipped in 14 and a team-high 13 helpers for Indiana, which has not won as the visitor since a 113-110 victory at Phoenix on January 7. The Pacers rest at the bottom of the Central Division with a 21-33 mark.
A Bell three that beat the buzzer gave the Bucks a 31-28 lead after 12 minutes but Indiana stayed with a sharp-shooting Milwaukee team through the second and a Jack triple tied the game at 44 apiece just past the seven-minute mark.
Both teams continued to hit field goals at a torrid pace and a Brandon Rush three-ball had the Pacers in front by four moments later before finishing the half up two, 59-57, following a layup by Rush.
The two squads continued their tear of hot shooting in the third and a late 8-2 run by Milwaukee allowed for a 90-84 advantage heading to the fourth.
A quick 7-2 burst from the Pacers cut the lead to three as Jack scored five straight points and finished things off with a three-point play for a 101-98 game with 5:15 remaining.
Eddie Gill answered with a three-pointer to spark a run of eight straight points by the Bucks to establish a 10-point lead but Indiana used the three- point shot to stay close as Granger buried a pair from long distance and Jack's triple with 2 1/2 minutes left got the visitors within five, 113-108.
However, the Pacers would go the rest of the way without a field goal and the Bucks made their trips to the line count as a Villanueva slam just inside a minute left put the game away.
