Athens, Greece (My Sportsbook) - Greece coach Otto Rehhagel's stock could not be any higher than it is right now after the improbable EURO 2004 triumph. Still, the Greek Football Federation (EPO) expects him to honor his contract, which doesn't expire until 2006. "Rehhagel will stay with us until 2006," EPO chief Vasilios Gagatsis said. The German coach has reportedly been pursued by the German national team. Rudi Voller recently stepped down after Germany failed to advance out of the group stage at the competition. "It is absolutely normal that (Germany) wants him, and it is an honor for us and our choice to hire him," said Gagatsis. The 65-year-old Rehhagel recently helped Greece pull off the biggest shock in European Championship history. "King Otto" as he is called in Germany, used his tactical brilliance and a strong concentration on defense to help the Greek side pull off the upsets. Rehhagel had his contract extended until 2006 just prior to the tournament. He is expected to lead Greece into the 2006 World Cup before stepping down into possible retirement. "On the flight back from Portugal I offered him to extend the contract until 2008," Gagatsis said. "But he told me that he didn't want to be transported into the football ground on a wheelchair."
