Phoenix, AZ (My Sportsbook) - The Arizona Cardinals made it official on Saturday, parting ways with defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast. "Clancy is a talented coach and we appreciate all that he's contributed in his time with the Cardinals," said head coach Ken Whisenhunt. "I took a look at the last two years as a whole and felt this move was necessary to help us continue the progress we've made." The 41-year-old had been at the position since coming to Arizona from the Cleveland Browns prior to the 2004 campaign. Despite a 9-7 record, NFC West division title and Super Bowl appearance this past season, the Cardinals finished 28th in the NFL in points allowed (426) and 19th in yards allowed. Pendergast's departure leaves the Cardinals without either coordinator they had this past season, when the club advanced to Super Bowl XLIII. Arizona's former offensive coordinator, Todd Haley, was named and introduced as the Kansas City Chiefs' new head coach at a press conference on Friday. |
