Santa Clara, CA (My Sportsbook) - The San Francisco 49ers announced Friday the hiring of Jimmy Raye as offensive coordinator and Mike Johnson as quarterbacks coach. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed. The club confirmed a week ago that Raye would fill the offensive coordinator position, ending a search that began after Mike Martz was fired in December after just one year in the position. Under Martz last season, San Francisco ranked 12th in the NFC in total points scored with 339. Raye began his NFL coaching career with the 49ers in 1977 as the team's wide receivers coach, and had stints with a number of teams as offensive coordinator. He was with the Los Angeles Rams (1983-84, 1991), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1985-86), New England Patriots (1990), Kansas City Chiefs (1998-2000), Washington Redskins (2001) and Oakland Raiders (2004-05) before taking over the Jets' offense for the past three seasons. Johnson was the wide receivers coach for Baltimore from 2006-07 after spending three years as quarterbacks coach of the Atlanta Falcons.
