New Jersey Devils will try to begin a new winning streak tonight when they visit the
Atlanta Thrashers for a matchup at Philips Arena.
The Devils, who lead the Atlantic Division with 67 points, closed the month of January with eight straight wins, but had that season-long winning streak snapped Tuesday by visiting Washington. Michael Nylander scored two goals as the Capitals pounded New Jersey, 5-2, at Prudential Center.
Jamie Langenbrunner and Brian Rolston scored for the Devils, who lost for the first time since January 11 at Anaheim.
Zach Parise added an assist to extend his point streak to seven games and has four goals and five assists during the run. Langenbrunner carries a four-game point streak into tonight's test and has recorded seven goals and an assist in that span.
Scott Clemmensen allowed four goals on 25 shots and was handed his first loss since the setback to the Ducks. He is 22-10-1 on the season.
The Devils have a solid 17-7-2 record as the visiting club this year and have won their last six road games.
The Thrashers, meanwhile, snapped a four-game losing streak in their last game, as they notched a shootout win Tuesday against the New York Rangers.
Slava Kozlov recorded the game-winning goal in the shootout, as the Thrashers blew a late lead but managed a 2-1 road win at Madison Square Garden.
Kari Lehtonen was stellar in goal for Atlanta and was mere seconds away from his 13th career shutout, but ended with 39 saves for the Thrashers. Joe Motzko scored his first goal of the season in the victory.
Tonight marks the first of consecutive home test for the Thrashers, who will also welcome Philadelphia this Sunday. Atlanta is 9-14-2 as the host this year and has lost three of its last five home tests.
The Devils have won two of three meetings with Atlanta this season and have taken five of seven matchups overall. Jersey has also won three in a row at Philips Arena.
