Irving, TX (My Sportsbook) - Dan Reeves, who starred for the Dallas Cowboys in the late 1960s and early '70s, will not be coming back to work with the team after all. The 65-year-old Reeves, a four-time coach in the Super Bowl, was trying to work out a contract to join the Cowboys in some capacity, but the team released a statement Wednesday night saying details couldn't be ironed out. "We had two very good days of dialogue with Dan Reeves, and both the Cowboys and Dan had an interest in working together," Cowboys public relations director Rich Dalrymple said in a statement. "By Wednesday afternoon, we were unable to reach an agreement on all of the details of a contract, and both parties were comfortable with the fact that Dan would not be joining the organization. Jerry (Jones, Cowboys owner) holds Dan in the highest regard as a friend and a tremendous contributor to the history of the Cowboys and the NFL." Last month, Reeves interviewed with the 49ers for their offensive coordinator job. Over eight seasons (1965-72) with the Cowboys, Reeves collected 1,990 rushing yards and 1,693 receiving yards. After that he was an assistant coach for the Cowboys under Tom Landry from 1974-80. He later went on to become the head coach of the Denver Broncos, New York Giants and Atlanta Falcons, spanning 23 years in the NFL.
