Oakland, CA (My Sportsbook) - The Oakland Raiders formally introduced Tom Cable as the team's next full-time head coach on Wednesday. Cable is the organization's 17th head coach after serving as Oakland's interim head coach for the final 12 games of the 2008 season. The Raiders finished the season at 5-11 but went 4-8 under Cable after the firing of Lane Kiffin late in September. The 44-year-old Cable joined the Raiders in 2007 as an offensive line coach. "I'm honored to have the privilege and the responsibility to be the head coach of the Oakland Raiders," said Cable. "I look forward to getting to work and working hard to bringing a championship to Oakland. It is something that is dear to all of us, dear to the city, and it is something that we will set out to do beginning now." Cable was the head coach at the University of Idaho, his alma mater from 2001-2003. There, he compiled a record of 11-35 in four straight losing seasons. After that, Cable served as offensive coordinator at UCLA from 2004-05, and he made the leap to the NFL the following season as the offensive line coach of the Atlanta Falcons. He now has the task of turning around a Raiders organization that hasn't had a winning record since 2002, which was their last playoff appearance under then head coach Bill Callahan. They've had at least 11 losses in each of the last six seasons. Cable becomes the fifth full-time coach of the Raiders since Jon Gruden left the team following the 2001 season.
