Ajax, which is second in the Dutch Eredivise, lost to Heerenveen on Saturday at Amsterdam ArenA, 1-0, and was headed toward a second straight loss and third overall against Heracles. Ricky van den Bergh and Vojtech Schulmeister scored in the opening 31 minutes, but Heracles couldn't hold on in the second half against the highest scoring team in the league. Sulejamni cut the deficit in half in the 70th minute, and Suarez leveled in the 72nd on a penalty kick. Ajax trails first-place AZ by eight points, but the surprise leaders could push the lead to double digits on Wednesday. Also Tuesday, Nicky Hofs scored in the 84th minute as Vitesse edged Heerenveen 1-0, and last-place Volendam got goals from Rowin Van Zaanen and Henny Schilder in the second half to edge Willem II 2-1.
