Vancouver, BC (My Sportsbook) - Marc-Andre Bergeron had two goals, including the game-winner on the power play with 3:08 left in overtime, as the Minnesota Wild sent the reeling
Vancouver Canucks to their eighth straight loss with a 4-3 win at General Motors Place.
Skating on the power play after Daniel Sedin was called for hooking just 52 seconds in, Pierre-March Bouchard sent a pass from the low left side to the top of the left circle where Bergeron blasted a one-timer past Roberto Luongo for the win.
Miiko Koivu and Eric Belanger each had a goal while Bouchard finished the game with three assists for the Wild, who have won two of their last three. Niklas Backstrom stopped 37 shots in the win.
"We wanted to get the lead early and we did that," said Koivu. "They're a good team and were playing desperate. It was a big win for us."
Ryan Kesler had two goals and Alexander Edler also lit the lamp while Luongo was charged with four goals on 27 shots for the Canucks, who last lost eight straight as part of a franchise record 10-game slide from October 23 to November 11, 1998.
Additionally, Vancouver has dropped its last nine games in front of the home crowd, which is a franchise record.
Trailing by a goal to start the third period, Vancouver tied the game at the 3:03 mark of the frame as Henrik Sedin won a left-circle faceoff and drew it back to Edler, who blasted a shot through traffic and past Backstrom.
However, the Wild retook the lead when Bouchard took a feed in his end, skated through the right side, cut over to the left circle and fired a pass over to the slot where Belanger wristed it home at the 7:46 mark.
Vancouver, though, was awarded a power play with 1:32 to play when Brent Burns was called for tripping. With Luongo on the bench for a 6-on-4, Sami Salo fired a shot from the left point that hit bodies in front, but Kesler was in the slot to slam home the loose puck with just 16 ticks left on the clock to send the game to overtime.
Minnesota took a 1-0 lead at the 7:38 mark of the first period on the power play as Koivu took a pass in the middle of the neutral zone, flew between two defenders and slid a low backhand past the left pad of Luongo.
Exactly four minutes later, the Wild made it a 2-0 game as Bergeron fired a shot from the left point that made its way through a screen and past Luongo.
Backstrom stopped all 10 shots he face in the first period.
Vancouver made it a 2-1 game at the 3:37 mark of the second period on the power play thanks to Kesler's goal.
A little over two minutes later, Cal Clutterbuck was given a major and a misconduct for a vicious boarding of Alex Burrows. However, the Canucks were unable to take advantage of the five-minute power play as Backstrom stopped eight shots on the extended advantage.
Luongo kept it a one-goal game by stopping all seven shots he faced in the second period.
