Daytona Beach, FL (My Sportsbook) - NASCAR has announced rule changes for the 2009 Camping World Truck Series season that will significantly reduce costs for teams, beginning with next month's season-opener at Daytona International Speedway. Teams will be limited to five men over the wall instead of seven, and pit crews will not be able to change tires and refuel during the same pit stops. Furthermore, a crew chief must designate a maximum of 12 active crew members for each event during the season. Active members include: crew chief, driver, spotter and crew members that enter truck servicing area of pit road during the race. Teams also will not be able to use three different engines in three consecutive events, excluding the races at Daytona and Talladega Superspeedway. At the time of the engine's first use in Truck Series competition, teams must declare the use of the engine for a future event. The engine will then be sealed by NASCAR. If an engine fails and the team is forced to used another one during a race weekend, the driver will then start the event from the rear of the field, as was the case in previous seasons. The rule applies to a team's three consecutive races entered and not just the three consecutive races on the schedule. Therefore, if a team missed races, it would still need to race the same engine in two of any three events it enters.
