(My Sportsbook) - The
Tampa Bay Lightning will try to win the season series with Philadelphia, as the Bolts host the Flyers in tonight's battle at St. Pete Times Forum.
This is the fourth and final meeting between the Lightning and Flyers this season. Tampa Bay is 2-0-1 in the season series so far and has won 15 of the last 19 encounters between the clubs. Philadelphia has also lost two of three and seven of its previous nine stops at the Forum.
Tampa Bay had tied a season high with three straight wins, but was denied a fourth consecutive victory when it dropped a close decision at Carolina on Thursday. Eric Staal's 21st goal of the season came with 1:36 remaining in regulation and lifted the Hurricanes to the 3-2 triumph over the Lightning.
Mark Recchi and Ryan Malone lit the lamp for Tampa Bay, while Mike Smith gave up three scores on 31 shots in the loss.
The Lightning are just 8-8-7 as the host this year, but have won three straight and four of their last five tests at the Forum.
The Flyers had won two straight prior to the All-Star break, but were handed a close setback by Florida in their first game following the hiatus. Michael Frolik recorded three points on a goal and two assists, and David Booth netted the game-winning goal as the Panthers snuck past Philadelphia, 3-2, at BankAtlantic Center.
Simon Gagne and Claude Giroux tallied for the Flyers. Martin Biron stopped 24 shots, but lost for the third time in as many starts.
Gagne reached the 20-goal plateau for the seventh time in his career, while Giroux notched the first tally of his NHL career.
Antero Niittymaki will get the start in goal for the Flyers tonight despite being 0-4-0 in his career against the Lightning. Niittymaki is 10-3-4 on the season and has won each of his last two starts.
The Flyers are playing the middle test of a three-game road trip tonight and will complete the swing Saturday in St. Louis. Philly is just 10-8-6 as the guest this year and has dropped four of its last five road games.
