Minneapolis, MN (My Sportsbook) - The Minnesota Twins agreed to terms with outfielder/designated hitter Jason Kubel on a two-year contract, with a club option for the 2011 season on Thursday. Kubel, 26, batted .272 with 74 runs scored, 22 doubles, five triples, 20 home runs and 78 runs batted in over 141 games with the Twins last season. He established career-highs in games, at-bats, runs, hits, triples, home runs, RBI and walks, finishing second on the team in home runs and third in RBI. "Jason has developed into an important member of our club and we were happy to get this deal done," said senior vice president/general manager Bill Smith. "Last year he provided improved power and run production in the middle of the lineup. He is a good fit in our clubhouse and we look forward to his continued development as a hitter." Over his four seasons in the majors, all with the Twins, he has a career batting average of .268 with 63 doubles, seven triples, 43 home runs and 176 RBI in 365 games. Kubel's signing leaves pitcher Matt Guerrier as the Twins' only remaining unsigned arbitration eligible player.
