Cincinnati, OH (My Sportsbook) - B.J. Raymond had 23 points and 10 rebounds, as the 10th-ranked Xavier Musketeers handled the Charlotte 49ers, 69-47, at the Cintas Center.
"I thought the storyline for the game tonight was the play of B.J. Raymond," said Xavier head coach Sean Miller. "He did it all. It's hard to get 23 points and 10 rebounds in the college game. He was clearly the best player in the game."
Kenny Frease finished with 17 points to help lead the Musketeers (18-2, 6-0 Atlantic 10), who have won their last nine games. C.J. Anderson had 10 points and five boards, while Dante' Jackson ended with nine points. Derrick Brown had a game-high 11 rebounds.
"In practice I'm starting to feel more comfortable in the post," said Frease. "I'm more comfortable with my moves. I don't think it's any one thing that I've changed. I think it's just sticking with the process."
Charlotte (6-13, 1-5) was paced by Charlie Coley, who had 12 points. Lamont Mack finished with 11 points and four boards for the 49ers, who have lost seven of its last eight games.
Xavier dominated the game early on and never looked back. The Musketeers started the contest on a 7-0 run and used a 9-0 run, after their lead was cut to just two, to really pull away and shut down any confidence the 49ers had.
"Xavier was very dominant tonight. Their defense was excellent in the first half," said Charlotte head coach Bobby Lutz. "Right now they're clearly the best team in the conference and they deserve their ranking, top 10, top 12, whatever it might be."
The Musketeers took a 31-13 lead into the locker room. Frease and Raymond scored 10 points apiece in the first frame to propel Xavier.
Xavier held strong in the second half, as Charlotte never got closer than 15 points.
The Musketeers' defense, who has propelled the team this season, did another great job in this contest. The 49ers shot just 30.9 percent from the field and a lowly 17.4 percent from beyond the arc.
Coming into the game, Xavier was limiting opponents to 62.5 ppg on 37.5 percent shooting from the floor.
