Coyotes host Ducks in Pacific Division battle

(My Sportsbook) - A pair of rested Pacific Division rivals will face off tonight at Jobing.com Arena, where the Phoenix Coyotes attempt to build on an impressive home record when they take on the Anaheim Ducks.

Phoenix enters tonight's clash in second place in the Pacific with 53 points, two more than the Ducks. Both teams are well behind first-place San Jose, which tops the Western Conference with 73 points at the moment.

The Coyotes' success has largely come on the strength of playing well at home. Wayne Gretzky's club has compiled an excellent 16-6-2 record as the host this season and won its last three matchups on home ice, including a recent ousting of the defending Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings.

Phoenix scored three unanswered goals in the third period in last Tuesday's 6-3 triumph over the Wings. Ed Jovanovski put the Coyotes ahead with a power- play marker just 2:06 into the frame, while Enver Lisin lit the lamp twice afterward to send the Coyotes to their third win in their last four games.

Ilya Bryzgalov made 34 shots to help Phoenix snap a nine-game losing streak to Detroit and record its first home win over the Red Wings since January 24, 2004.

Anaheim has not taken the ice since last Wednesday's 2-1 loss to the lowly New York Islanders at Nassau Coliseum. The Ducks were stoned by Isles netminder Yann Danis, who turned aside 39-of-40 shots to earn his first NHL win in over three years.

Jean-Sebastien Giguere wasn't nearly as sharp between the pipes for Anaheim, as the veteran goaltender allowed two goals on just seven shots before being replaced by Jonas Hiller less than 15 minutes into the game. Bobby Ryan scored the Ducks' lone goal.

Anaheim concludes a five-game road trip that overlaps the All-Star break tonight. The Ducks are just 1-3-0 on the swing and have lost six of their last eight tilts overall.

These teams have split two previous meetings this season, both of which took place in Anaheim. The Ducks have won in seven of their 11 trips to Phoenix and notched a point (2-0-2) in each of their four visits to Jobing.com Arena in 2007-08.

Giguere, however, has lost four consecutive starts against the Coyotes and surrendered four goals on 24 shots in Anaheim's 4-2 loss to Phoenix on October 12.
