Oklahoma opened the season with 12 consecutive wins before finally suffering a loss to Arkansas. Fortunately, the Sooners have rallied for seven straight victories since that defeat to move to 19-1 overall and a perfect 5-0 in the Big 12. On Saturday, they crushed Baylor by a 95-76 final and are now looking to become the nation's first 20-win team.
As for Oklahoma State, it showed a great deal of toughness to knock off Nebraska on Saturday in a 76-74 final in overtime. That road win halted a two- game skid for the Cowboys, who are 13-5 overall and 2-2 in league action. There is reason for confidence tonight, as the club is 9-1 at home thus far.
Oklahoma owns a 123-89 series lead over Oklahoma State, which includes three straight wins over the Cowboys.
Considered by many to be the best player in all of college basketball, Oklahoma's Blake Griffin is a sensational frontcourt performer. With a rare combination of size and athleticism, Griffin is a matchup nightmare for any opponent. He is currently averaging 22.2 ppg on 62.2 percent shooting from the floor, and the power forward is also pulling down 13.8 ppg. Freshman Willie Warren checks in with 15.1 ppg for the Sooners, who are getting 10.6 ppg from Tony Crocker. Oklahoma is generating 80.0 ppg this season while surrendering only 64.8 ppg to opponents on 37.6 percent field goal efficiency. In the romp over Baylor on Saturday, Blake Griffin racked up 20 points and 17 rebounds, while old brother Taylor Griffin added 18 points. Warren netted 17 points and Crocker posted 12 for Oklahoma, which shot 58.3 percent from the floor and limited a talented Baylor club to 34.6 percent shooting.
Oklahoma State shot 54.7 percent from the floor in the narrow win over Nebraska on Saturday, including a 5-of-6 effort in the overtime period. A total of five players reached double figures in scoring for the Cowboys in the triumph, and Marshall Moses poured in a career-high 18 points off the bench to go along with 10 rebounds. James Anderson also had 18 points, and Byron Eaton netted 12 points. Obi Muonelo and Keiton Page posted 10 points apiece for Oklahoma State, which held the Cornhuskers to 39.2 percent overall shooting. Anderson is averaging 17.9 ppg for the Cowboys, and Muonelo adds 15.6 ppg and 9.6 rpg. Terrel Harris provides 14.3 ppg, and Eaton is good for 13.6 ppg and 5.6 apg. Oklahoma State is scoring 85.4 ppg through 18 outings, and the team is holding opponents to 74.1 ppg.
