Nashville, TN (My Sportsbook) - Fresh off a heart-breaking loss in their most recent outing, the 24th-ranked Florida Gators return to action against SEC foe Vanderbilt today. Florida carried a 10-game win streak into Wednesday's matchup with South Carolina and was clearly favored in the tilt. Unfortunately, the Gators watched in despair as a Gamecock beat the regulation buzzer with a layup that lifted his team to a 70-69 win. Florida is 16-3 overall and 3-1 in conference, although the club is just 1-2 in true road tilts. As for Vanderbilt, its 12-6 overall record is overshadowed by a 1-3 mark against SEC opponents. The Commodores have lost their last two outings, including a 76-63 setback at home to Tennessee on Tuesday. Vanderbilt owns a 61-54 series edge over Florida, which includes a 39-12 mark in Nashville. Nick Calathes is clearly one of the top guards in all of college basketball. The versatile performer has led Florida in scoring in seven consecutive outings and is averaging 17.8 ppg on the strength of his 51.8 percent shooting from the floor, including 40.6 percent efficiency from three-point range. Calathes has also dished out 125 assists and is tops with 40 steals as well. Alex Tyus is the only other double-digit scorer in the lineup with 12.2 ppg, and he is ripping down 6.6 rpg as well. The Gators are generating 78.4 ppg through 19 outings, and they are allowing only 64.5 ppg. Calathes scored 20 points to go along with five assists in the disappointing loss to South Carolina on Wednesday. Chandler Parson pitched in 14 points for the Gators, who turned the ball over 18 times and were outscored by seven points from the foul line. Florida lost despite shooting 54 percent from the field while holding South Carolina to 39 percent efficiency. Vanderbilt's defensive numbers are tremendous this season, as the club is limiting opponents to 59.8 ppg on 37.3 percent shooting from the field. The Commodores are netting 68.6 ppg at the offensive end, and A.J. Ogilvy leads the way with 15.8 ppg. Ogilvy, the team's center, is shooting 53.9 percent from the floor while pulling down 6.8 rpg. Jeffery Taylor checks in with 12.2 ppg and 6.2 ppg, and Jermaine Beal adds 11.9 ppg. The fourth and final double- digit scorer on the roster is Brad Tinsley, as he provides 10.2 ppg. Vandy did not play well in the loss to Tennessee on Tuesday, as the club connected on only 34.5 percent of its field goal attempts, including a 6-of-23 showing from three-point range. Defensively, the Commodores allowed the Vols to hit 50 percent of their shots overall. Ogilvy was held to seven points and four rebounds.
