Austin, TX (My Sportsbook) - Damion James recorded a season-high 28 points with seven rebounds to lead the 14th-ranked Texas Longhorns in a 67-58 win over rival Texas A&M in the latest installment of the Lone Star Showdown at the Frank Erwin Center.

Gary Johnson checked in with 15 points and A.J. Abrams had nine with three steals, four assists and as many boards for the Longhorns (14-4, 3-1 Big 12), who have opened their league slate with three wins in their first four games and were coming off another instate rival victory against Texas Tech last weekend.

Texas has logged wins in 19 straight home games and a remarkable 101 of its last 107 on the home hardwood.

Donald Sloan had three of his five field goals come from beyond the arc en route to 17 points while Chinemelu Elonu finished with 12 points, four boards and five blocks for the Aggies (15-5, 1-4), who have dropped four of their first five league outings after starting out 15-1.

Texas A&M now owns a three-game slide overall, dropping consecutive games to Oklahoma, Kansas and now Texas.

Josh Carter evened the score at 30 with a jumper to open the second half but the Aggies then went six-plus minutes without a field goal. Texas, though, could only build a five-point lead over that stretch and consecutive jumpers from David Loubeau and Dash Harris had A&M back within one, 37-36, with 13:11 left.

The Longhorns responded and immediately opened up a 12-point lead behind a 15-4 run. James netted 11 of the 15 and added a jumper moments later. Connor Atchley then converted a three-point play, giving Texas a 13-point advantage with just under seven minutes left.

"When he gets his balance under him, he does a great job, but overall we're just trying to share the ball. I thought he did a great job shooting the ball. He screens and he's looking to move. He's playing stronger," Texas head coach Rick Barnes said of James' effort.

The teams traded free throws over the next five-plus minutes and a Johnson field goal with 1:46 to play maintained the Longhorns' lead at 13.

Sloan stroked a three-ball at 1:18 and again with 30 seconds remaining to cut the Aggies' deficit to single digits but that only delayed the inevitable as Texas went 6-of-8 at the line to seal the win.

"I was really pleased with our effort. Our guys were into the game from the beginning. We started the game well, something we've been concentrating on all week," Texas A&M head coach Mark Turgeon said.

The Aggies fought hard in the first half and held the Longhorns to a razor thin lead until a James jumper just inside two minutes put Texas up 30-26. Sloan, though, countered with a jump shot on the other end as A&M finished the half down only two.

Games Notes
