Knoxville, TN (My Sportsbook) - Tyreke Evans finished with 17 points and eight rebounds, as the 22nd-ranked Memphis Tigers held on for a 54-52 win over the Tennessee Volunteers.

Doneal Mack and Antonio Anderson each scored 10 points for Memphis (16-3), which extended its winning streak to 10 games. Anderson also had seven boards and four assists, while Shawn Taggart recorded nine rebounds and eight points.

Wayne Chism had 15 points and six rebounds to pace Tennessee (12-6), which had its two-game win streak snapped. Tyler Smith finished with 13 points and 10 boards in the loss for the Vols, and J.P. Prince scored 10 points.

Both teams weren't especially sharp shooting, as Memphis made only 33.9 percent of its field goals, while Tennessee shot 32.7 percent from the floor.

In a tight game, Evans' layup gave Memphis a three-point lead with just under three minutes remaining. Chism followed with a pair of free throws, making it a 53-52 contest with 2 1/2 minutes remaining.

The score remained that way down the stretch, as the teams missed a variety of shots. Evans committed an offensive foul with 1:09 left, but on the other end, Chism was off the mark on a jumper. Evans then missed a shot, and Tennessee grabbed the rebound, calling a timeout with 20.1 seconds left.

After the inbound, Smith forced up an awkward shot in the lane that fell off the front of the rim. Memphis won the resulting scramble for the ball, and the Vols were forced to foul with 4.6 ticks remaining. But the Tigers hadn't yet reached the bonus, and had to inbound the ball. Anderson lofted the ball to Robert Dozier, who was fouled with 3.4 seconds left. Memphis had to inbound the ball once more, and got the ball to Evans, who was fouled with 1.9 showing on the clock.

He made the first, but missed the second so more time would come off the clock. Tennessee got the board off Evans' second miss, but was left with just 1.1 ticks for a final shot. Chism threw the ball past halfcourt for Josh Tabb, who turned and managed to get up a shot -- but it didn't hit the rim, as Memphis held on for the win.

Tennessee held a 29-28 lead after a back-and-forth first half, but Memphis got the upper hand in the second stanza. The Tigers scored the first four points of the half, and went ahead 40-32 almost 3 1/2 minutes into the period after Mack hit a three and Evans sank a jumper.

The Tigers' lead still stood at eight a minute later, but they missed their next eight shots. That allowed the Vols to nearly pull even on the strength of a seven-point burst. Smith ended it with a jumper to bring Tennessee within 42-41 almost at the halfway point.

Memphis later extended its lead to six, but Chism made two free throws and followed with a three-pointer after drawing an offensive foul, bringing the Vols within 51-50 with four minutes remaining.

Games Notes

Tennessee still owns a 12-8 series lead over Memphis...The Vols made just 14- of-23 free throws, while the Tigers were 11-of-14 from the line...Tennessee made 2-of-10 from beyond the arc, while Memphis was 5-for-15 on three-point attempts...Memphis plays at East Carolina on Wednesday...Tennessee hosts LSU on Wednesday.
