Glasgow, Scotland (My Sportsbook) - Celtic's lead atop the Scottish Premier League table grew to four points on Saturday as the Hoops secured a 3-1 win over Hibernian at Celtic Park, while Rangers was held to a 0-0 draw at Aberdeen.
Celtic jumped out to a two-goal lead inside of nine minutes with goals from Scott McDonald and Stephen McManus, while Hibs pulled one back in the 17th minute through Robert Jones before McDonald tallied his second goal of the match with 15 minutes to play.
The result comes on the heels of a 4-2 loss to Aberdeen that closed the gap at the top to two points, but today's results give Celtic a bit more of a cushion ahead of another Old Firm contest in three weeks.
Hibernian has won only one of its last five games and sits in the middle of the table in sixth place.
The home side got off to a flying start with a pair of Shunsuke Nakamura corner kicks providing the club with two goals in the first nine minutes.
The opener arrived three minutes into the game with Nakamura's corner being met by the head of Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink. Hibs goalkeeper Grzegorz Szamotulski reacted well and parried the header, but McDonald was on hand to finish off the rebound.
Nakamura and Vennegoor of Hesselink teamed up again in the ninth minute with the Dutchman's header being deflected inside the six-yard box and slammed home from close range by McManus.
Hibs got back into the match eight minutes later with Celtic defender Gary Caldwell being whistled for a handball on the left wing. Derek Riordan then swung the free-kick into the area and Jones redirected it with his head past goalkeeper Artur Boruc.
Celtic returned to the attack over the rest of the first half, and although Szamotulski did well to keep his side within a goal at the break, a third goal from Celtic seemed inevitable.
The strike arrived 15 minutes from time after some good work from Scott Brown on the right. The Celtic midfielder worked his way towards the box and cut the ball back for McDonald to lash high into the net from 12 yards.
Rangers was frustrated to be held without a goal at Pittodrie Stadium, although they still lead third-place Dundee United by 12 points, while the Dons slip to fifth with the result.
Dundee United was able to jump into the top three by beating St Mirren 3-2 on a pair of second-half goals from Warren Feeney, while Hearts moved into fourth place with two goals from David Obua in a 3-2 win over last-place Inverness.
Falkirk is now two points from the bottom after earning a 1-1 draw at Motherwell. David Clarkson put the home side ahead in the 43rd minute, but Falkirk's Dean Holden canceled out the goal in the 53rd minute with one of his own.
