New York, NY (My Sportsbook) - The New York Mets have reportedly signed veteran pitcher Freddy Garcia to a minor-league contract. According to the New York Daily News, Garcia could earn as much as $9 million with incentives and is expected to compete for a rotation spot. Garcia, 33, has appeared in just 14 games over the past two seasons after undergoing right shoulder surgery that cut his 2007 campaign short. The Tigers inked the right-hander to a minor league deal in August of last season and Garcia went on to make three starts, posting a 1-1 mark and a 4.20 earned run average. The Phillies acquired Garcia from the White Sox in an off-season trade prior to the 2007 season. But that resulted in just a 1-5 record over 11 starts and a 5.90 ERA before the surgery. Garcia went 17-9 with a 4.53 ERA in 2006 with Chicago before his disastrous 2007 season. The Caracas, Venezuela native is a career 118-77 with a 4.07 ERA in 10 seasons with the Mariners, White Sox, Phillies and Tigers.
