Charlotte, NC (My Sportsbook) - The Carolina Panthers have named Rip Scherer their new quarterbacks coach. Scherer spent the past four years tutoring the Cleveland Browns' quarterbacks. He takes over for Mike McCoy, who left to become the offensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos. The 56-year-old coaching veteran spent most of his career in the collegiate ranks. He was the head coach at James Madison from 1991-94, then guided Memphis from 1995-2000. Scherer has also been an assistant on the college level, starting in 1979 at Virginia. He's additionally been with Georgia Tech, Alabama, Arizona, Kansas and Southern Mississippi.
