Flushing, NY (My Sportsbook) - The New York Mets have signed infielder Alex Cora to a one-year contract. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Cora appeared in 75 games for the Boston Red Sox last season and batted .270 -- the second-highest average of his career -- and added two hits in 11 at- bats during the postseason. He started 41 games during the regular season -- 38 at shortstop and three at second base. "You win championships with a 25-man roster," said Mets general manager Omar Minaya. "Alex Cora has been an integral part of teams that have been to the postseason in four of the last five years." The 33-year-old Cora was a member of Boston's 2007 World Series championship team. He also went to the playoffs with the Red Sox in 2005, and with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2004. "I'm excited to join the Mets," said Cora. "We have a talented roster. I'm committed to do everything I can in any role to win." Cora has a career batting average of .245 with 34 home runs and 242 runs batted in with the Dodgers, Indians and Red Sox in 11 big league seasons.
