Portland, OR (My Sportsbook) - Portland Trail Blazers rookie guard Rudy Fernandez was selected by the fans as the fourth and final participant in the 2009 Slam Dunk competition to be held on February 14 in Phoenix. Fernandez received 251,868 total votes in an online fan ballot cast on NBA.com. The first-year player from Spain, who became the first international participant in the contest, beat out Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook (147,279 votes) and Milwaukee Bucks forward Joe Alexander (114,963). The other three participants are last year's winner, Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard, Memphis Grizzlies forward Rudy Gay and New York Knicks guard Nate Robinson. Robinson previously won the contest in 2006 over Philadelphia's Andre Iguodala. Fernandez has been enjoying a solid rookie campaign, putting up 10.9 points per game in 39 contests, four starts, for the Blazers.
