Irving, TX (My Sportsbook) - The Dallas Cowboys released defensive coordinator Brian Stewart on Friday. Stewart had spent the past two years as the defensive coordinator for the Cowboys staff, after coming to Dallas from the San Diego Chargers in 2007. However, he was relieved of his play-calling responsibilities by Wade Phillips after a 34-14 romp at the hands of the St. Louis Rams in Week 7. Dallas gave up a combined 77 points in the final two games to finish the season 9-7, which kept the team out of the playoffs for the third time in the past five seasons. The defense gave up 22.8 points per game during the 2008 season, which ranks 20th in the league. Stewart's previous NFL coaching jobs included three years in San Diego (2004-2006) and two seasons with the Houston Texans (2002-2003).
