Toronto, Ontario (My Sportsbook) - The Toronto Argonauts introduced former Tennessee Titans assistant coach Bart Andrus as the team's 40th head coach on Friday. Andrus, 50, has accumulated over 25 years of coaching experience, most recently serving as an offensive assistant for the Titans in 2008. A former quarterback at the University of Montana, Andrus previously coached for Tennessee for three seasons, joining head coach Jeff Fisher's staff as an offensive assistant coach in 1997. He was elevated to quarterbacks coach prior to the 1999 campaign, guiding veteran quarterback Steve McNair and the Titans to a 13-3 regular season record and a trip to Super Bowl XXXIV. "This is the beginning of a new era for the Toronto Argonauts and I couldn't be more excited that Bart Andrus is our head coach," general manager/vice president of football operations Adam Rita stated. "This young man, at least compared to me, has impressed me from our first meeting with his intensity, poise, intelligence, focus and knowledge of the game. His ability to lead, while emphasizing teamwork, is impressive and inspiring. I can't wait to see him drenched by a jug of Gatorade when he racks up his first win for the Argos." Andrus' head coaching experience includes a successful stint with the Amsterdam Admirals (2001-07) in the now defunct NFL Europe. He was named NFL Europe Coach of the Year after posting a 6-4 mark and leading his team to a victory in World Bowl XIII against the Berlin Thunder. Andrus served as the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach of the Rhein Fire (NFLE) in 2000 and directed the league's top-ranked offense to a World Bowl victory over the Scottish Claymores. He also served as head coach for Rocky Mountain College in 1996. Andrus replaces Don Matthews, who stepped down as coach in October following a 4-14 season.
